Art & Geneva- Dynamique Ancestrale by Andre E Bucher

I've passed the bus stop-museum several times. I never noticed several sculptures placed around the building. For once, I saw a bull from far and decided to explore the place. As soon as I got down from the bus stop, I walked towards right and I saw a long rock structure protruding through the bronze cylinder tied with steel strings. I realised the steel rope is part of the installation.

This is titled Dynamique Ancestrale done by Andre E Bucher. Born in Mozambique(1924) is a swiss sculptor and renowned artist of Geneva. He is from Cologny, the place I frequently visit. Andre seems to be an adventurer, climbing flanks of volcanos to collect molten lava rocks, the material he experimented with and also the source of his inspiration. He called it, 'matter of matter.'

I came across several of his works across Geneva and I'm inspired by his artistic process. More on his other works in other posts.

Today, I came across of his two works during my stroll.

In this piece Dynamique Ancestrale, the rock seemed to be extracted from the volcanic eruption. I wonder what could be the composition of this rock. If it's a single piece of rock, I'm astounded by Andre's journey of procuring this rock and traveling along with this piece of time that's been there god knows since how many years in how many forms.

According to wikipedia, Andre is originally from Kern, canton on Obwalden born in Mozambique. He passed away in June 6 2009 in Geneva at the age of 85.

I visited the Cemetery in Feb 2024 where Andre is buried. I wonder if I came across his grave during my visits. Would love to visit again to pay my respects to this brilliant artist.
