Art & Geneva- Life and Research 1972
On a walk to Lancy in Geneva, I came across this institute with tall trees and expansive garden. I walked around and found this sculpture made by Andre E Bucher.
A little story and connections between Andre's artistic process and the location of the sculpture. The sculpture is placed at the Batelle Institute as Batelle monument. The piece is titled as Duality as placed on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the institute. The institute was established after Gordon Batelle who pioneered in sciences and came from the U.S family who worked in Steel. The institute was established with an intention to serve for humankind through advancement of sciences. Our artist Andre explores with materials like lava rocks, steel and bronze. His experimentation and passion with origin of earth materials and the allignment of institute's philosophy seemed to bring the artist and patron together.
The piece is titled as Life and Research(1972) has a flowy forms with strong rigid suspensions interseting to form an interesting perspective. A beautiful monument placed right at the entrance of the institute.
